look at these incredible first reviews:
Kurt Rydl´s Ochs dominates the stage. (Los Angeles Times)
As Baron Ochs, the Austrian bass Kurt Rydl, a superb singing actor... (New York Times)
Kurt Rydl is mastering the absurdity of the role. (Variety)
Kurt Rydl, a celebrated Viennese singing actor, inhabits the role...booming voice and superb comic gifts... (Daily News)
The stars of the evening were bass Kurt Rydl as the Baron Ochs and soprano Adrianne Pieczonka as the Marschallin. Mr. Rydl's ability to express his male role both vocally and expressive were brilliant. (Edgar Rosas Quintero, KUSP 88.9 FM)
The
greatest fun of the evening comes from watching Rydl as the absurd
Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau. A good Ochs can steal the whole opera, and
Rydl almost succeeds. His basso profundo and smug waltz at the end
of Act Two are almost worth the price of admission.
